Answered by Sideshow Steve - Wed Oct 21 12:37:28 2009 How big must a Vegas convention be to make it necessary to avoid Vegas?
Q. I'm planning a trip to Vegas next year. I read in the dear old Lonely Planet that it's worth avoiding Vegas when there's "a big convention on" - overpriced hotels, no availability for restaurants and shows etc. Question is, how big is "big"? Having never been, does 20,000 extra people in town cause a problem, or go unnoticed? 10,000? 5,000? Thanks to everyone for your views! Asked by Dave - Mon Nov 1 19:58:14 2010 - Las Vegas - 9 Answers - Comments A. Yes...there are BIG conventions in Vegas. By most city standards, a 5,000 attendee convention is BIG. In Las Vegas, known as 'The Convention Capital of the World,' a convention starts to be considered to be big once you get over 10,000 or so. I am 'affiliated' with a conventon that brings about 15,000 attendees (plus spouses and friends)...but is very heavy on Audio Visual needs. There are "a few" conventions that are 50,000 plus...but not many. Typically, Las Vegas has a series of 'smaller' conventions going on at the same time. 5k here, 10k there, a few hundred and maybe even 20k somewhere else...that can have the same effect. What you SHOULD be looking at is specific properties...because we have well over 100,000 hotel rooms… [cont.] Answered by MJM - Tue Nov 2 18:51:15 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "convention" |

Colin Crisp identifies recurrent patterns in the fields of character, narrative, and setting in the French cinema of the early sound period and delineates the myths that these patterns embodied. In Part One he discusses the 1300 films produced by the French cinema in the 1930s, treating them as a single global textual system that returns obsessively to certain types of story, character, and setting.
